Don Carey has been practicing law for over twenty years. Don's practice at Carey Perkins LLP includes the defense of employment practices claims, real estate and contractual disputes, professional liability claims, insurance, fire and casualty claims, extra contractual (bad faith) claims, environmental and toxic tort cases, and personal injury defense. Don also handles family law matters. Don has experience in both arbitration and mediation. He is widely recognized as one of the foremost trial attorneys, particularly for insurance defense matters, in Eastern Idaho. Don's geographic area of coverage includes eastern Idaho and all of Wyoming.

Don served on active duty with the United States Navy, stationed on nuclear submarines based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 1975 to 1980. In the military, Don received training on nuclear waste management practices, hydrocarbon handling practices, hazardous material handling and atmospheric control. Upon honorable discharge, Don attended Mesa College, Grand Junction, Colorado, receiving a B.A. in political science. As part of his undergraduate studies, Don served a congressional internship with the Honorable Raymond Kogovsek, Third Congressional District, Colorado. Don received his J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law.

Don joined the predecessor law firm of Carey Perkins LLP after graduating from law school in 1991, practicing initially in its Pocatello office, until helping to open an office in Idaho Falls. In 1998, Don was a founding partner of Carey Perkins LLP. Don is admitted to the bars of both Idaho and Wyoming, and has practiced in the state and federal courts of both jurisdictions. Don is also admitted to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Don is a member of the American Inns of Court (Eagle Rock Chapter) and the Seventh Judicial District Bar Association. In 2009, Don received the Eagle Rock Inn of Court Professionalism Award for his service to the legal profession, the Inns of Court and to his community. He is a volunteer attorney for the Seventh Judicial District CASA Program, which represents the interest of children who are the victims of abuse and neglect. Don is a past President of Idaho Falls Rotary Club #1041. Don is AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review rated by Martindale Hubbell. He is a partner in the law firm, and practices in the Idaho Falls office.
