Mr. Carey served on active duty with the United States Navy, stationed on nuclear submarines based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 1975 to 1980. In the military, Mr. Carey received training on nuclear waste management practices, hydrocarbon handling practices, hazardous material handling and atmospheric control. Upon honorable discharge, Mr. Carey attended Mesa College, Grand Junction, Corlorado, receiving a B.A. in political science. As part of his undergraduate studies, Mr. Carey served a congressional internship with the Honorable Raymond Kogovsek, Third Congressional District, Colorado. Mr. Carey received his J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law.
Mr. Carey joined the law firm of Quane, Smith, Howard and Hull after graduating from law school in 1991. Mr. Carey conducts a litigation and dispute resolution practice. Mr. Carey's practice at Carey Perkins LLP includes the defense of employment practices claims, real estate and contractual disputes, professional liability claims, insurance, fire and casualty claims, extra contractual (bad faith) claims, environmental and toxic tort cases, and personal injury defense. Mr. Carey has experience in both arbitration and mediation. Mr. Carey’s geographic area of coverage includes eastern Idaho and all of Wyoming.
Mr. Carey is admitted to the bars of both Idaho and Wyoming, and has practiced in the state and federal courts of both jurisdictions. Mr. Carey is also admitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Carey is a member of the Defense Research Institute, the American Inns of Court (Eagle Rock Chapter), and the Seventh Judicial District Bar Association. In 2009, Mr. Carey received the Eagle Rock Inn of Court Professionalism Award for his service to the legal profession, the Inns of Court and to his community. He is a volunteer attorney for the Seventh Judicial District Casa Program, which represents the interest of children who are the victims of abuse and neglect. Mr. Carey is a partner in the law firm, and practices in the Idaho Falls office.
